Hoover Elementary, in Melrose Public Schools, is situated in a highly populated, residential area that is interconnected with narrow streets, steep hills, and sharp turns.
This 4,536 sq. ft. addition provides the school with three Kindergarten classrooms, restrooms, a janitor’s room, and entrance vestibules. The new wing is joined to the existing building through a site-built conditioned corridor, and is situated directly next to the playground. It was critical that this building be completed within the short time-frame allotted, so that school operations could proceed on-time, without disturbing the students. Off-site construction was the only method that could be used to get this done.

Six (6) individual sections
The six classroom modules were crane set on a concrete stem-wall foundation, including interior piers. The building has a rainwater collection system for storm water management, and a retaining wall was installed for rain water diversion. Final touches of pavement, sod, and landscaping create a welcoming and beautiful surrounding for learning.
Exceptional time constraints required special planning to carefully coordinate off-site construction with on-site installation of certain building components. This initiative ultimately resulted in the building being ready on-time for the school’s opening. It also demonstrated the extensive flexibility of using modular.
