Modular Project: Great Southern Ready Mix

They service commercial and residential clients from their two busy concrete plants in the suburbs of Houston, Texas; one is located to the northeast in New Caney and the other is in Katy to the west.

To ensure they continue providing clients with service excellence, Great Southern Ready Mix decided to upgrade their office space with a new modular office building. One of the major project considerations was the construction schedule. It was important to have the new modular office operational in a short period of time so construction would not negatively impact ongoing plant operations, or inconvenience customers.

This 2,016 square-foot modular building serves Great Southern Ready Mix’s employees and customers with office space, a large break area, kitchenette, handicap accessible restroom facilities and plant control room. Maintaining a comfortable environment inside the building can be difficult in the hot and humid Houston climate, but the correctly sized rooftop HVAC units (RTUs) have no trouble automatically controlling the inside building temperature. It cost a bit more to install the HVAC units on the roof, but it was worth it to Great Southern, because it keeps the units out of sight and out of the way. T1-11 was installed to finish exterior, the roof is weatherproofed with rubber, and the building is accessible by ADA wooden steps, decks, and a ramp. Highly durable vinyl covered tile (VCT) was selected as the floor covering inside the building, and vinyl covered gypsum (VCG) finishes off the walls for easy maintenance and cleaning.
