“Is modular construction really durable?” “Are modular buildings secure?” “Are they safe?” happens to be lines of questioning we hear often in modular building construction. The simple answer is yes, modular buildings, classrooms, offices, and housing quarters are built to be extremely durable, safe, and secure.
From the highly controlled manufacturing facilities, specialized skilled workers, and quality control inspections that take place throughout each project, prefabricated buildings are manufactured to be structurally sound and last for decades.

At a traditional construction site, exposure to rainy or snowy weather conditions can damage your building materials. Wet building materials in any type of construction can cause your building to deteriorate prematurely and can even lead to mold and air quality issues. In a modular manufacturing facility, building materials are protected from undesirable elements, resulting in a durable and secure modular building that performs for a longer period of time.
When a commercial office building, healthcare facility, or school expansion is constructed on-site, the project concludes with a single building inspection. Often the single inspector is tasked with checking all specialized areas of the building, including the roof for its quality and safety measures such as the electrical circuit for the right flow of electricity and earthing and other issues such as plumbing, and structural integrity.
Conversely, during an off-site modular construction project, specialized and focused inspections are completed at each step of the process, as the individual module moves down the assembly line. This unique quality control strategy allows for imperfections to be caught and corrected without affecting the other areas of the project helping to save time and keep costs down. When the project is completed on-site, the final assembly then undergoes the same final inspection as its conventionally built counterparts. While many of the companies make sure that they provide over the top service, there are some contractors who have the habit of letting the little things go which results in problems later. Thus getting a final inspection is always necessary.
Temporary and permanent modular structures are subject to the same building regulations and codes as site-built buildings. More than that, modular components are also designed and manufactured to withstand the rigors of on-road transportation, including high winds, vibrations, weight distribution, and bumps.
In 1993, in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, FEMA praised the workmanship of modular construction in extreme conditions. When Hurricane Sandy ravaged the northeast in 2012, almost 20 years later, it was again noted that modular buildings fared better than stick-built buildings. The owners of modular constructions made less claims of water heater repair near Plano than their traditional timber neighbors.
